About The Position

Audio Advice is seeking an experienced Lead Installation Technician to join their team. This role involves leading crews, solving complex technical problems, mentoring junior technicians, and collaborating with Project Managers and system designers to ensure high-quality installations. The ideal candidate is passionate about audio, video, home automation, networking, lighting, and technology, and takes pride in craftsmanship and making complicated systems work flawlessly. The position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated residential technology projects in fine homes, including dedicated home theaters, whole-home audio/video systems, smart home automation, networking, lighting control, and more. The Lead Technician will be responsible for the technical leadership on job sites, ensuring projects are completed to Audio Advice standards, and developing the skills of less-experienced technicians. Professionalism and excellent customer interaction are also key aspects of the role, serving as the senior technical representative on job sites.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in low-voltage installation, AV integration, smart home technology, or a related technical field.
Strong knowledge of residential audio, video, networking, and control systems.
Experience leading projects, crews, or technicians in the field.
Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
Strong understanding of installation practices including cable pulling, termination, labeling, equipment mounting, and rack construction.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and test equipment safely.
Strong communication skills and confidence interacting with customers.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform installation work involving ladders, attics, crawlspaces, and other residential job-site environments.

Nice To Haves

Experience with high-end residential AV integration.
Strong networking knowledge including routers, managed switches, VLANs, access points, and Wi-Fi optimization.
Experience with platforms such as Control4, Savant, Crestron, or similar automation systems.
Experience with dedicated home theaters, distributed AV, lighting control, or motorized shades.
Manufacturer or industry certifications.
Experience training or mentoring developing technicians.

Responsibilities

Take the technical lead on sophisticated residential technology projects, including premium audio and video systems, dedicated home theaters and media rooms, whole-home distributed audio and video, smart home automation and control systems, enterprise-grade residential networking and Wi-Fi, lighting control and motorized systems, equipment racks and centralized technology infrastructure, and structured wiring and low-voltage systems.
Install, configure, test, commission, and troubleshoot systems, ensuring finished work is clean, organized, reliable, and built to Audio Advice standards.
Lead installation teams in the field.
Assign and coordinate daily installation work.
Solve complex technical and installation challenges.
Work closely with Project Managers to keep projects moving.
Identify field conditions that require design or scope changes.
Maintain high standards for workmanship, safety, efficiency, and professionalism.
Help ensure projects are completed correctly the first time.
Mentor less-experienced technicians, demonstrate proper installation practices, and teach troubleshooting skills.
Serve as the senior technical representative on the job site, communicating with homeowners, builders, designers, architects, and other trades.
Explain systems clearly, provide project updates, and answer technical questions.
