About The Position

Ryan Lawn & Tree is hiring a Small Engine Mechanic I for its Maisch Small Engine shop. The mechanic will maintain, diagnose, and repair outdoor power equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and chainsaws. The role involves learning alongside experienced technicians, following established procedures, and developing skills with opportunities for advancement.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience working on small engines, personal or professional.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Comfort using a computer or tablet to document repairs and look up parts.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Meet required pre-employment screening requirements, including a drug screen, criminal background check, MVR check, and DOT physical where applicable.

Nice To Haves

• Trade school coursework in small engine repair.
• Shop experience.
• Familiarity with brands such as STIHL, Husqvarna, Honda, and Briggs & Stratton.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, air filter and spark plug replacements, and blade sharpening.
• Diagnose common mechanical issues and complete repairs accurately and on time.
• Document diagnostic findings, parts, labor, and equipment condition on service orders.
• Assist senior technicians with complex repairs and overhauls.
• Work with the Service Writer to keep customers informed and ensure work is approved before it begins.
• Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe, and follow PPE and safety requirements.
