Slingshot Pre-Silicon Diagnostics & Validation Engineer

Hewlett Packard Enterprise•Fort Collins, CO
•$140,000 - $321,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hiring an engineer to lead and perform analysis, development, execution, and evaluation of validation solutions for High Performance Computing (HPC) network interconnect ASICs, with a primary focus on pre-silicon diagnostics and validation. The role develops software-driven validation environments using full-chip emulation and prototype platforms to verify the functionality, performance, and interoperability of Network Interface Card (NIC) and Switch ASICs used in HPE Slingshot solutions. The position applies advanced subject-matter knowledge to complex technical problems with minimal supervision. The engineer independently plans and executes validation activities, leads issue resolution across engineering teams, and provides technical guidance to less experienced colleagues. The role also contributes to product development and delivery by investigating failures, improving validation methods and infrastructure, and communicating results and risks to stakeholders. The role is hybrid and requires working an average of two days per week from an HPE office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • 6–10 years of experience in VLSI design, verification, validation, or implementation, including experience leading teams or complex projects.
  • Experience developing and executing complex validation or diagnostic test environments.
  • Advanced experience with ASIC validation, diagnostics, or verification methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of digital design, computer architecture, and VLSI principles.
  • Experience developing validation software using Python and Linux-based environments.
  • Experience debugging complex hardware and software interactions in large-scale system environments.
  • Knowledge of Verilog and familiarity with RTL design concepts and debug workflows.
  • Experience with EDA, emulation, FPGA, or related pre-silicon development tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex technical problems and drive issues to closure.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of industry-standard networking protocols; experience with HPC interconnects is a plus.
  • Familiarity with NIC and Switch ASIC architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and maintain validation tests and frameworks for NIC and Switch ASICs used in HPC interconnect solutions utilizing the HPE Slingshot protocol.
  • Perform full-chip validation using emulation and prototype silicon platforms to verify functional correctness, performance, reliability, and interoperability.
  • Develop software-based validation solutions, automation infrastructure, and diagnostic tools using Python, Linux, and related technologies.
  • Independently investigate and debug complex hardware, software, and system-level failures; work with design, architecture, firmware, and software teams to determine root causes and drive resolution.
  • Analyze validation results, identify coverage gaps and product risks, and recommend improvements to validation methodologies and test strategies.
  • Review hardware and software designs for testability, diagnosability, and alignment with validation requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define validation plans, execute project milestones, and ensure product readiness.
  • Contribute to technical reviews and provide feedback to improve product quality, validation effectiveness, and engineering processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and serve as a resource for validation methodologies, tools, and debugging techniques.
  • Improve validation infrastructure, automation, and development workflows to increase productivity and test coverage.
  • Communicate validation status, technical findings, risks, and recommendations to project stakeholders and management.
  • Lead technical investigations and validation efforts for complex features or subsystems while contributing to larger project objectives.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits supporting physical, financial, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Career development programs and investment in personal and professional development.
