About The Position

Sleep Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Devereux New York works with children and adults with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses. Located in Highland, NY, this position allows the DSP to sleep overnight at their assigned location, anticipating an average of seven hours of sleep per night, while remaining responsive to resident needs if support is required. During awake hours, the DSP assists individuals with daily activities such as health and personal management, achieving personal goals, and household living. The role also involves maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment that meets the physical, emotional, and personal needs of residents, aiming to improve functioning and minimize interfering behaviors.

Requirements

• High School Diploma / GED required.
• One year experience preferred.
• Have a Valid NY Driver's License.
• Be flexible, patient, energetic, creative, and have a sense of humor.
• Have a strong passion for working with and helping children and adults with special needs.
• Zero-tolerance policy for abuse and maintain policies and procedures to systematically reduce the risk of abuse.

Nice To Haves

• Associates Degree preferred.
• Consideration will be given for a candidate without a High School diploma if enrolled in a GED program.

Responsibilities

• Sleep overnight at their assigned location, while being responsive to the needs of the residents in the event that support is needed.
• Assist individuals in daily activities, including health and personal management.
• Assist individuals in achieving personal goals.
• Assist individuals with daily household living.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic treatment environment that meets the physical, emotional, and personal needs of program individuals.
• Improve functioning and minimize interfering behaviors of program individuals.
