About The Position

This position is responsible for providing skills training and vocational services to support the mission, training, continuous quality improvement, and marketing goals of the career services program. The role involves delivering high-quality, individualized services to participants, implementing and potentially customizing curriculum, and preparing necessary reports. The Skills Instructor will also work with employment staff to identify and address barriers to employment, develop individualized plans, and provide supportive counseling. Maintaining accurate documentation, developing relationships with partners, and ensuring compliance with various regulations are also key aspects of this role. The position may involve assisting with supplies, training schedules, job analyses, and curriculum management. Additionally, the instructor is expected to develop an annual professional development plan and participate in various teams and meetings.

Requirements

  • Previous experience providing training in specific skill area.
  • Strong communication, training and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated competence of designated trade and occupational field.
  • Knowledge of training practices and methods, including formal and/or on-the-job training, selection of materials, competency testing and curriculum design.
  • Must be computer literate and functional in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent ability to facilitate positive actions and growth of participants in a flexible geographic environment where self-direction, prioritizing and organizational skills will be crucial to success.
  • Ability to be flexible in hours and work location (within entire Goodwill service area) to accommodate the needs of the Program and Goodwill.
  • Strong ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain positive working relationships with a wide variety of organizations and individuals.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and a clean MVR.
  • The ability to push, pull and lift 50lbs. with or without accommodations.
  • Must be able to safely operate a vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements to perform all duties relating to Career Services including driving, material handling, transporting and carrying documents, handbooks and various supplies.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in related field preferred or a combination of education, trade or teaching experience and/or providing instruction in the specific trade will be considered.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skills training and vocational services in support of career service’s financial, mission, training, continuous quality improvement and marketing goals.
  • Assist in checking incoming and outgoing supplies as assigned.
  • Deliver highest quality, individualized services to program participants/job seekers, with a focus on the mission of Goodwill of North Georgia.
  • Effectively train and supervise participants in a broad range of community and Goodwill settings as assigned.
  • Implement approved curriculum and develop/customize curriculum for all levels of career services as needed and approved by manager.
  • Prepare reports and summaries according to Career Services policies and procedures and requirements of applicable funding and regulatory sources.
  • Support and advocate for the program participant and their right to a higher quality of life through work.
  • Work with employment staff to identify, recommend, and assist with a range of job readiness, placement and development services in response to market demand and individual participant goals and needs.
  • Ensure participant opportunity, dignity and rights, including confidentiality.
  • Work with each participant and program team members to identify barriers to employment and to develop and implement individualized plans.
  • Ensure ongoing supportive counseling and crisis intervention as needed, by coordinating referral to and utilization of community resources.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of program operations.
  • Assist in prepare training schedules and job analyses, as assigned.
  • Prepare annual professional development plan (PDP) for work and professional development and report progress toward achieving goals.
  • Assist to maintain documentation and control of the curriculum, instructional materials, and tools.
  • Develop and maintain quality relationships with funding, employer and community partners as appropriate.
  • Assist in researching and developing new training site opportunities.
  • Comply with Agency, Career Services, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), federal and grant regulations, policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the Agency’s safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Participate in cross division and cross department teams as assigned.
  • Plan and participate in community and Goodwill meetings as needed or as assigned.
  • When not needed for instructing the training class, assist in other program and Goodwill functions.
  • Support the operations of the career center site.
  • Complete all core training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
