DoW Skillbridge - Skilled Technician Opportunity
About The Position
Cummins offers a DoW SkillBridge opportunity for eligible active-duty service members preparing to leave the military. The program provides hands-on experience in a civilian manufacturing and equipment repair environment, including opportunities in machining, manufacturing, electrical work, and machine repair. Participants receive mentorship and skill development to help apply and strengthen their military skills and gain practical industry knowledge. This is a non-paid internship. Participants must complete at least 8 weeks and no more than 6 months, and be able to participate for 40 hours per week. Cummins may consider participants for full-time employment after completion; compensation and benefits apply only if hired into full-time employment, and vary by location.
Requirements
- Must be a current active-duty service member participating in the SkillBridge program.
- Must be separating from the military in 4–12 months.
- Must be able to complete a SkillBridge internship lasting at least 8 weeks and no more than 6 months.
- Must be able to complete 40 hours per week.
- Strong interest in mechanical or electrical work.
- Basic knowledge of engine diagnostics, vehicle maintenance procedures, and mechanical systems repair.
- Ability to read schematics and technical manuals accurately; strong mechanical knowledge required.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and operate machinery safely.
- Excellent attention to safety protocols.
- Strong communication skills, with a focus on customer service and teamwork.
Nice To Haves
- Hands-on mechanical or electrical background is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with manufacturing operations and equipment is advantageous.
