DoW Skillbridge - Skilled Technician Opportunity
About The Position
Cummins is seeking eligible active-duty service members for its DoW SkillBridge program. Potential roles include machining, manufacturing, electrician, machine repair, and other related work. The non-paid internship lets transitioning service members apply and strengthen military skills in a civilian manufacturing equipment repair environment through hands-on experience, mentorship, and skill development. Participants must be separating from the military in 4–12 months and complete an internship lasting at least 8 weeks and no more than 6 months, at 40 hours per week. The program is intended for people with a strong interest in mechanical or electrical work. Work experience is minimal or not required. The position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. The program itself does not provide compensation through Cummins. Participants selected for full-time employment with Cummins after completing SkillBridge may receive a base salary commensurate with experience. Benefits for subsequent employment vary by location and may include a 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, medical, dental, and life insurance, a Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage, and other personal and professional benefits.
Requirements
- Be a current active-duty service member participating in the SkillBridge program.
- Be separating from the military in 4–12 months.
- Be able to complete an internship lasting at least 8 weeks and no more than 6 months.
- Be able to complete 40 hours per week.
- Have a strong interest in mechanical or electrical work.
- Have basic knowledge of engine diagnostics, vehicle maintenance procedures, and mechanical systems repair.
- Be able to read schematics and technical manuals accurately and have strong mechanical knowledge.
- Be proficient with hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment, and have basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Be physically able to perform heavy lifting and operate machinery safely.
- Follow safety protocols and demonstrate strong attention to safety.
- Have strong communication skills focused on customer service and teamwork.
Nice To Haves
- Hands-on mechanical or electrical background.
- Familiarity with manufacturing operations and equipment.
