About The Position

Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) is seeking a full-time Skilled Maintainer to join the Environmental & Facilities Custodial Department for both campuses located in Danbury, CT. This position will be responsible for the full range of skilled trades functions including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and/or painting, as well as operating equipment to fulfill job functions. The role is integral to the university's commitment to providing a safe and functional academic environment, and candidates must be prepared to work in various conditions.

Requirements

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:00pm.
  • Must be available for emergencies and scheduled overtime.
  • Must possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
  • Must possess two (2) years of experience in one of the skilled trades (plumbing, carpentry, electrical and/or painting).
  • Must be able to lift 90 lbs.
  • A medical exam, drug screen, and criminal background check will be required prior to offer of employment.
  • Two (2) years of experience in one of the following areas: One of the skilled trades; Landscape maintenance or vegetable gardening; Operation of motor trucks or large buses.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to utilize computer software.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial/Industrial experience in plumbing, carpentry, electrical and/or painting.
  • Experience performing highly skilled trades tasks in accordance with standard trade practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing.
  • Experience sourcing necessary materials and reading general blue prints.
  • Experience updating projects and work orders through electronic systems.
  • Experience working independently.
  • Experience providing excellent oral and written communication skills and interacting with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the full range of skilled trades functions (plumbing, carpentry, electrical and/or painting).

  • Provide trades services for both campuses of the University.
  • Perform a variety of skilled trades duties across both campuses.
  • Ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of campus facilities.
