About The Position

The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) has an opening for a Maintainer (PCN 25753) for the Western CT Mental Health Network (WCMHN) in Danbury. This is a full-time position with a 37.5-hour work week, scheduled for the first shift from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The role involves performing minor building repairs to ensure safe and functional facilities, handling snow removal and vehicle upkeep, monitoring safety checks, maintaining cleanliness of high-touch areas, and coordinating facility needs. DMHAS is dedicated to promoting the health and wellness of individuals with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of services. WCMHN's mission is to provide a comprehensive and effective recovery-oriented system of mental health and addiction services.

• Experience completing preventive safety or equipment checks like gauges, fire extinguishers, or mechanical systems
• Experience with grounds care tasks including snow removal, sanding/salting walkways, mowing, or debris cleanup
• Experience supporting vehicle upkeep such as cleaning, basic preventive maintenance, or transporting vehicles for service
• Experience operating small power equipment such as snowblowers, lawn mowers, or similar tools used in facility and grounds work
• Experience maintaining custodial or facility cleanliness, including sanitizing high-touch areas and managing supplies

Responsibilities

• Performs minor building repairs to maintain safe and functional facilities
• Handles snow removal and vehicle upkeep including sanding and routine maintenance coordination
• Monitors and documents preventative safety checks for items like fire extinguishers and smoke detectors
• Maintains cleanliness and sanitization of high-touch areas at the Danbury Site
• Coordinates facility needs by managing supplies, communicating with the landlord, and working with outside contractors
• Performs preventive maintenance tasks including checking gauges, steam trap indicators, belt tension, and changing filters
• Inspects doors for damage, tightens furniture and cabinets, lubricates when necessary, and replaces castors
• Cleans grease traps, strainers, and boilers
• May replace ceiling tiles and loose floor tiles, spot patch walls, or replace washers
• May repair minor leaks in toilets and drinking fountains
• May attach shelving and put up bulletin boards, pictures, etc.
• May clean motor housings, ducts, and other mechanical equipment
• May act as a relief person for other maintenance employees
• May perform custodial functions as required
• May move furniture
• Digs ditches and shovels materials such as sand, stone, dirt, and snow
• Operates hand and small power equipment, snowblowers, mowers, and attachments
• Cuts weeds or brush, weeds gardens, and rakes fill, loam, grass, or leaves
• Moves, loads, unloads, and distributes supplies and equipment
• Cleans gutters, storm sewers, and catch basins
• Plants, fertilizes, and limes vegetables, lawns, flowers, shrubs, etc. with detailed instruction from supervisor
• Trims shrubs
• May supervise parking to enforce regulations
• May operate and perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles such as tractors, trailers, multiple power mowers, snow blowers, and snow plows
• May sand and salt walkways
• Picks up litter, empties trash receptacles, and maintains dumpster areas
• Assists a skilled worker by passing tools, carrying or lifting materials, and running errands
• Acts as a helper to a higher grade Maintainer or Qualified Craft Worker in more difficult tasks requiring special or greater skills
• May perform semi-skilled tasks in carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, electrical work, and other trades
• May clean, oil, and make minor adjustments to electrical, structural, mechanical, building, and utility systems and other equipment
