About The Position

Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) is seeking a full-time Skilled Maintainer to join our Environmental & Facilities Maintenance Trades Department in Danbury, Connecticut. This role is integral to the university's commitment to providing a safe and functional academic environment. The Skilled Maintainer will perform a wide range of tasks to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of campus facilities, including various skilled trades duties across both campuses. Candidates must be prepared to work in various conditions.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in one of the following areas: One of the skilled trades; Landscape maintenance or vegetable gardening; Operation of motor trucks or large buses.
  • Possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to utilize computer software.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial/industrial experience in plumbing, carpentry, electrical and/or painting.
  • Experience performing highly skilled trades tasks in accordance with standard trade practices.
  • Experience sourcing necessary materials and reading general blue prints.
  • Experience updating projects and work orders through electronic systems.
  • Experience working independently.
  • Experience communicating both orally and in written form, as well as interacting with customers.
  • Experience lifting 90lbs. or more.

Responsibilities

  • Performing one or more tasks of a skilled nature below the level of a specialized trades worker.
  • Performing lower level duties.
  • Learning complex tasks on the job.
  • Performing tasks in one or several of the following areas: Building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial), including the operation of trucks of five (5) ton or greater capacity or complex motorized equipment; Grounds care as a supervisor and/or specialized landscaping functions; Assisting Qualified Craft Workers or other higher level employees in the trades areas.
  • Providing trades services for both campuses of the University.
  • Performing the full range of skilled trades functions (plumbing, carpentry, electrical and/or painting).
  • Operating equipment to fulfill job function.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing.
  • Sourcing necessary materials.
  • Reading general blueprints.
  • Updating projects and work orders through electronic systems.
  • Working independently.
  • Communicating both orally and in written form.
  • Interacting with customers.
