About The Position

Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) is recruiting for a Building Superintendent 1 to work on its campus in Willimantic, CT. This position is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday, with a second shift from 5:00pm - 1:00am. Requirements

  • Four (4) years of experience in building management or in the operation or maintenance of buildings.
  • Three (3) years of the General Experience must have been in a lead capacity in either the maintenance of buildings or military experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of building custodial care, minor maintenance, and operations.
  • Considerable knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations.
  • Considerable interpersonal skills.
  • Considerable oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to inspect and diagnose repair and improvement needs and to recommend and follow through on solutions.
  • Ability to handle problems in one or more areas such as security, transportation, or stores.
  • Ability to utilize computer software.
  • Supervisory ability.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid, unexpired, Connecticut Driver's License.

  • Experience and expertise in floor care, cleaning equipment, and associated processes.
  • Previous experience coordinating event set ups and job assignments.
  • Experience with OSHA Hazard Communication standards, SDS, and proper chemical handling processes.
  • Experience performing daily record keeping and building inspections to ensure cleanliness standards are being met.
  • Previous experience using work order systems, CORE, and Microsoft office programs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising remedial and custodial services, minor maintenance, and building operations as a shift or functional area supervisor.
  • Scheduling, assigning, overseeing, and reviewing the work of staff.
  • Providing staff training and assistance.
  • Conducting performance evaluations.
  • Determining priorities and planning building maintenance work.
  • Establishing and maintaining building maintenance procedures.
  • Developing or making recommendations on the development of policies and standards.
  • Acting as a liaison with other operating units, agencies, and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures.
  • Preparing reports and correspondence.
  • Conducting regular and special inspections to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Inspecting properties for defective lighting, plumbing, heating, ventilating, and similar facilities and equipment and assigning staff to remedy same or reporting to superior.
  • Maintaining inventory of furniture and equipment and requisitioning replacements and supplies.
  • Ensuring that room(s) are properly set up for special events.
  • Investigating reports of willful or malicious damage to state property.
  • Supervising minor repair work not requiring services of trades workers.
  • Ensuring proper temperatures are maintained.
  • Responding to emergencies on a twenty-four hour basis.
  • Conducting new product and equipment testing.
  • Performing related duties as required.
