About The Position

The Diocese of Allentown is seeking a full-time Skilled Laborer for Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem. This role involves maintaining cemetery grounds, including grass cutting, trimming, tree and shrub removal, leaf maintenance, spring clean-up, digging foundations, snow removal, and assisting with burials and entombments. The position requires operating various equipment such as small tractors, trucks, lawn mowers, a payloader, and large mowers. The employee must also be able to erect tents for burials, prepare graves, and perform manual digging. Cleaning and storing tools and equipment are also part of the duties. The employee will perform any work directed by the Superintendent, Foreman, or Field Supervisor, and other duties as assigned. A condition of employment is exhibiting respect for the teachings and discipline of the Catholic Church and maintaining a lifestyle in conformity with these teachings.

Requirements

Must exhibit a high degree of integrity, loyalty, time management skill, dependability and have a strong work ethic.
Must have knowledge of grounds, building tools, equipment operations and the ability to perform repairs to minor equipment.
The ability to work independently, multi-task and demonstrate competence in all areas of responsibility.
Must be able to work with all staff members, co-workers and contractors in a professional manner.
Must have a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License. Revocation of PA Driver's license may result in termination of employment.
Requires heavy physical effort with reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate the different sets of controls while operating the equipment and attachments.
Incumbent may be subjected to considerable strain caused by vibration, jerking, and jolting of the equipment over rough surfaces and the need to operate controls in awkward positions.
Heavy effort is frequently exercised when performing duties such as tamping, carrying caskets/urns, lifting/moving grave planks, setting headstones, etc.
Incumbent must be able to walk on hilly, flat, or rolling terrain.
Must be able to safely lift weights up to 50 lbs. Occasionally items weighing more than 50-lbs. are lifted with assistance from co-workers.
Employee may be exposed to noise levels.

Responsibilities

Operation of trucks and payloader (front-end loader).
Operation of the push mowers and large mowers (Yazoo/Locke).
Trimming and/or removal of cemetery-owned trees and shrubs when authorized.
Cutting of grass around all areas of the cemetery as required.
Removal of snow at cemeteries, Tribunal and current and retired Bishops' residences, when necessary.
Erect tents for burial and prepare the grave for interment. At times, manual digging.
Dig foundations 3 to 4 feet deep.
Cleaning and store all tools and equipment as directed.
Performs any work directed by the Superintendent, Foreman, or Field Supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned.
