About The Position

Copper Mountain Resort is seeking a Ski Patrol Volunteer for the Winter 26/27 season. This role is crucial in ensuring a safe and enjoyable skiing environment for guests and employees. The volunteer will be responsible for providing medical assistance, maintaining skier safety, conducting trail checks and sweeps, and managing duty station responsibilities. This position requires a high level of decision-making, basic computer skills, EMT-B certification, American Heart Association CPR, and strong snowboarding or alpine skiing skills.

Requirements

Basic computer skills
EMT-B certification (or in the process of obtaining)
American Heart Association CPR certification
Strong snowboard or alpine skiing skills
Ability to lift and carry toboggans weighing up to 70 lbs.
Ability to ski in difficult conditions, volunteer in cold and inclement conditions, and at high elevations.
Ability to carry and transport unwieldy materials such as tower pads and medical equipment.
No current physical limitations.
Ability to volunteer in high altitude adverse cold weather environmental conditions.
Ability to hear and speak clearly for beacon signals, assisting skiers, and radio/telephone communication.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Technical rope experience.
Willingness to undergo a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Provide guest service and positive interactions with guests.
Learn all trail names, mountain phones, mountain roads, and other patrol-specific areas.
Use a mountain radio and follow patrol radio protocol.
Perform medical assessments, treatment, and toboggan running, including triage and multi-system trauma response.
Conduct incident investigations, preserve facts, and complete reporting and documentation, adhering to OSHA requirements.
Establish a safe skiing environment through trail checks, openings/closings, early season preparation, obstacle marking, signage, sweeps, and special race preparation and coverage.
Participate in snow safety, including avalanche search and rescue.
Perform lift evacuations, including specialized training for emergency evacuation of chair lifts and injured parties.
Educate skiers on the Colorado Skier Safety Act, including boundary management, safe skiing, and speeder control.
Participate in ongoing training and demonstrate proficiency in all areas of patrolling, including medical preparation, lift evacuation, mountain/company policies, and inter-agency relations.
Inspect equipment, including duty stations, toboggans, medical gear, search and rescue equipment, radios, and rescue beacons.
Work at assigned stations: Motel 6, PHQ, and Timberline.
Utilize computer and software for incident reporting.
Integrate with other Copper Mountain departments for company-wide efficiency.
Orient volunteers in mountain safety awareness.
Act as an ambassador for Copper Mountain, modeling and sharing the Copper culture.
Uphold a professional image and strive to exceed guest expectations.
