About The Position

Copper Mountain Resort is seeking passionate and skilled skiers/riders to volunteer for on-hill ski/ride events and races throughout the winter season. Volunteers will support the Race/Competitions and Events & Services Departments in executing events such as slalom, giant slalom, super G, downhill, halfpipe, slopestyle, and boarder/skier cross. Opportunities include roles like race starters, credential checkers, course/feature marshals, timers, and scoreboard keepers. Volunteers must be able to commit to at least 7 days/shifts from November through mid-April, with specific requirements for the initial months and the USASA Nationals event. This role requires a love for the outdoors and the ability to be an ambassador for Copper Mountain Resort.

Requirements

  • Must be passionate and skilled skier/riders.
  • Must love the outdoors.
  • Must be able to commit by November to volunteer 7 days/shifts throughout the season (November through May).
  • Must be in good physical condition and dress warmly to be outdoors in winter conditions for extended periods of time at 9,600 feet and above.
  • Must be able to commit to completion of all scheduled volunteer shifts.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must own or have access to proper ski/ride equipment including a helmet.
  • Is flexible with hours and days of volunteering.
  • Is on time and able to volunteer any hours of the day for which they commit.
  • Prioritizes and re-prioritizes personal time and volunteering, to have good balance in life.

Nice To Haves

  • Able to ski/ride at a minimum of intermediate level, expert skiers/riders preferred.
  • On-hill experience and knowledge of Copper trails and chairlifts a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a member of the Copper Mountain Competitions Department, modeling and sharing the Copper “culture” with guests and employees.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Resort, striving to exceed athlete and event organizer expectations and create memories for all guests.
  • Perform duties such as Gatekeeping and Judging, Starter and Assistant Starter, Scoreboard posting, Hand Timing, Jump marshals, Tabulator, Credential Checker, and Course marshals.
  • Uphold a professional image and adhere to grooming guidelines.
  • Follow established policies and procedures.

  • Handle fast-paced, potentially high-pressure environments.
