About The Position

Copper Mountain Resort is seeking enthusiastic individuals to volunteer in conjunction with the Race/Competitions and Events & Services Departments to successfully execute on-hill ski/ride events and races. These events include slalom, giant slalom, super G, downhill, halfpipe, slopestyle, and boarder/skier cross. Volunteer roles range from race starters and credential checkers to course marshals and timers. Candidates should be passionate and skilled skiers/riders who enjoy the outdoors and can commit to volunteering at least 7 days/shifts throughout the season, from November through May. Volunteers are expected to be ambassadors for the resort, uphold a professional image, and be flexible in performing various assigned duties. The position requires a commitment to fulfilling scheduled shifts and maintaining a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Must be passionate and skilled skier/riders.
Must love the outdoors.
Must be able to commit by November to volunteer 7 days/shifts throughout the season (November through May).
Must be in good physical condition.
Must dress warmly to be outdoors in winter conditions for extended periods of time at 9,600 feet and above.
Must be able to commit to completion of all scheduled volunteer shifts.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must own or have access to proper ski/ride equipment including a helmet.
Must be flexible with hours and days of volunteering.
Must be on time and able to volunteer any hours of the day for which they commit.
Must prioritize and re-prioritize personal time and volunteering to have good balance in life.
Must be honest and have the highest integrity.
Must be able to handle and manage confidential information.
Must adhere to all Copper grooming guidelines.
Must follow established policies and procedures.
Must be supportive of Core Values.
Must set the example for others and be above reproach.
Must be comfortable challenging established policies and procedures, but once established, must be supportive of those rules.
Must be organized in tasks and see projects through to the finish.
Must have good follow-through and make it a habit of getting back to people on issues.
Must be able to handle a fast-paced, potentially high-pressure environment.

Nice To Haves

Expert skiers/riders preferred.
On-hill experience and knowledge of Copper trails and chairlifts a plus.

Responsibilities

Execute on-hill ski/ride events and races including: slalom, giant slalom, super G, downhill, halfpipe, slopestyle and boarder/skier cross.
Serve as race starters, credential checkers, course/feature marshals, timers, scoreboard keepers, runners, and more.
Ensure athletes pass gates fairly and cleanly.
Line up athletes and give proper start commands.
Post scores relayed from the timer.
Manually time races for backup.
Notify officials if an athlete clears a jump and communicate with judges.
Help judges record scores in the race shack.
Ensure a secured venue and allow only appropriately credentialed individuals access.
Maintain safety on courses for SX/BX events.
Function as an ambassador for Copper Mountain, modeling and sharing the Copper “culture” with guests and employees.
Uphold a professional image and exceed guest expectations.
Be flexible to perform various qualified positions.
Accept new responsibilities and transfer others as the role evolves.
