Skateboard / Basketball Instructor - Veterans Park
About The Position
Veterans Memorial Park in Woodbridge, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Basketball Instructor and a passionate and skilled Skateboarding Instructor to join their team. The Basketball Instructor will help players of all skill levels refine their techniques, build confidence, and elevate their game, focusing on areas such as dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, and game tactics. The Skateboarding Instructor will teach individuals of all skill levels how to safely perform skateboarding techniques, including balance, tricks, and proper riding posture, emphasizing safety practices and helping students build confidence and proficiency. Classes and clinics run in the fall and spring with varying times and offering dates. Employee hours are part-time and based upon enrollments and cannot be guaranteed.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- 8th grade education
- 6 months of teaching/instruction experience
- Requires special training in specified activity
- Requires knowledge and experience in specified activity
- Customer service principles
- Basic exercise science principles and theories
- Recordkeeping principles
- Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations
- Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment

- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
- May require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for teaching skills, techniques, and strategies of basketball, focusing on areas such as dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, and game tactics.
- Provide personalized coaching, assess player performance, and develop training plans to help athletes improve their skills and achieve their full potential.
- Teaches individuals of all skill levels how to safely perform skateboarding techniques, including balance, tricks, and proper riding posture.
- Provide personalized coaching, emphasize safety practices, and help students build confidence and proficiency in the sport.
- Carrying out program plans, activities, and lessons.
- Sets up equipment or materials needed for a class and cleans up after program.
- Provides excellence in customer service by answering questions and providing information to the public.
- Maintains and prepares equipment and facility and maintains related records.
- Enforces program and facility rules; provides emergency care and treatment as required.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- May provide daily upkeep and light maintenance of equipment and facility.
