About The Position

The Skate Instructor position is responsible for instructing and coaching ice skating at the Plymouth Ice Center. This role involves ensuring skating instruction aligns with the ISI progression program, supporting a successful and growing skating program, and providing engaging lessons to skaters of various ages and skill levels. The instructor will focus on proper skating techniques, monitor participant well-being and progress, and maintain a safe, supportive, and positive environment. Additionally, the role requires participation in strategic planning and program meetings, and maintaining open communication with the Skating Director, coaches, participants, parents, and arena staff.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must have successfully passed the skating level assigned to instruct.
  • Must be able to demonstrate all skills required for the level assigned to teach.
  • Must be available to work weekend hours.
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Must demonstrate positive and effective communication skills with participants.
  • Must understand, or be able to learn, effective teaching techniques and proper skill progression.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior skating or teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Instructing and coaching ice skating at the Plymouth Ice Center.
  • Ensuring skating instruction is provided in accordance with the ISI progression program.
  • Supporting a successful skating program that engages participants and contributes to program growth.
  • Providing instruction to skaters of various ages and skill levels.
  • Ensuring lessons are organized, engaging and focused on proper skating techniques.
  • Monitoring the well-being and progress of all participants throughout lessons.
  • Maintaining a safe, supportive and positive environment for all skaters.
  • Participating in strategic planning and program meetings.
  • Maintaining open and effective communication with the Skating Director, coaches, participants, parents and arena staff.
