About The Position

The Sitter, also referred to as a Patient Observer, provides continuous one-on-one observation and support to hospital patients who require close monitoring to ensure their safety. Sitters do not perform clinical procedures. They support patient safety, particularly for patients with cognitive impairment, delirium, or a high risk of falls. This is a per diem position, with variable shifts and hours, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. The Sitter works under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Requirements

BLS (AHA) certification is required.
Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Eligible to participate in a C.N.A. training program within 90 days is preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintain constant visual observation of the assigned patient under RN supervision.
Continuously observe patients at risk of harming themselves or others, including patients who are confused, agitated, or medically unstable.
Help prevent falls, wandering, and removal of medical devices such as IV lines or catheters.
Help ensure a safe and clean environment.
Provide companionship and reassurance to help reduce patient anxiety and agitation.
Promptly communicate patient activity, behavior, or condition changes to nursing staff or the healthcare team.
Interact professionally and respectfully with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Assist with non-clinical needs, such as basic comfort measures or calling for assistance.
Help maintain a calm and safe environment for patients and staff.
Provide support to peers and staff.
