About The Position

The Sitter, also referred to as a Patient Observer, provides continuous one-on-one observation and support to hospital patients who require close monitoring to ensure their safety. Sitters do not perform clinical procedures. They play a vital role in patient safety and support, particularly for patients with cognitive impairment, delirium, or high fall risk. This is a per diem (PD/PRN) position at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, with variable shifts and hours. The Sitter works under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Requirements

BLS (AHA) certification is required.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English.

Nice To Haves

High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Eligibility to participate in a C.N.A. Training program within 90 days is preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintain constant visual observation of the assigned patient under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Continuously observe patients at risk of harming themselves or others, including patients who are confused, agitated, or medically unstable.
Help ensure patient safety by preventing falls, wandering, and removal of medical devices such as IV lines or catheters.
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Provide companionship and reassurance to help reduce patient anxiety and agitation.
Promptly communicate patient activity, behavior, or changes in condition to nursing staff or the healthcare team.
Interact professionally and respectfully with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Assist with non-clinical needs, such as basic comfort measures or calling for assistance.
Help maintain a calm and safe environment for patients and staff.
Provide support to peers and staff.
