About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 for the Office of Land Management at Silver Springs State Park. This position will use their skills to perform routine tasks in the operation, maintenance, and improvement of site grounds and satellite locations. This will include repairs to vehicles and equipment, maintenance of buildings and grounds, and tasks related to outdoor recreational programs. Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area contains 1,350 acres in Kendall County and is named for the natural spring within its boundaries. Requirements

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery
  • Requires valid Class A Commercial Driver's license with Air Brakes designation
  • Ability to obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment
  • Ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis
  • Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds
  • Ability to lift, carry, transport loads exceeding sixty pounds
  • Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain
  • Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
  • Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions
  • One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations
  • One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation
  • One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping

Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision, carries out semi-skilled work and routine tasks in the operation, maintenance, and improvement of site grounds at Silver Springs and its satellite locations
  • Performs routine maintenance and makes repairs to vehicles and equipment
  • Performs building and grounds maintenance
  • Performs routine tasks related to outdoor recreational programs
  • Assists in implementing the safety and security programs at the site
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
