About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire three Site Technician II's at Pere Marquette State Park for the Office of Land Management. This position will perform semi-skill work by performing a range of duties associated with various building trades; build concrete forms for fire pads, sidewalks and floors; clean, paint and maintain swimming pools; operate tractors (up to 80 HP), backhoe, mowers and chain saws to perform maintenance and improvement projects to the site's campground trails, river banks, day-use areas, lodge, and surrounding grounds and marina; plow and shovel snow, patch roads, repair and paint picnic tables. Pere Marquette State Park is a nature lover's paradise. In addition to enjoying the spectacular views of the Illinois River and its backwaters from several points atop the bluffs, visitors can take advantage of a variety of year-round recreational opportunities, including horseback riding, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, and boating. Requirements

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two year's maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires appropriate, valid Driver's license.
  • Requires ability to obtain herbicide/pesticide operator’s license within 6 months of employment
  • Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
  • Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
  • Requires ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair and care of site resources, artifacts, buildings and grounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
  • Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
  • Two (2) years of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision of the Maintenance Operation Site Assistant Superintendent, performs semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of site buildings, furniture, fixtures and equipment and swimming pool renovation.
  • Operates 1 ton stake bed truck to haul brush lumber etc for park maintenance.
  • Performs routine maintenance and major repairs on site's equipment and vehicles.
  • Inspects public use areas for hazards such as flooding fallen trees erosion broken picnic tables and broken playground equipment.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
