About The Position

The purpose of your role as a Safety Coordinator is to assist in the supervision and administration of Harris’ health & safety programs to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. You will contribute to the desired safety and work culture of the organization. This role involves controlling hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through interface with project management/supervisory personnel, and assisting in the supervision and administration of safety/first aid and rescue squad activities. You may assume total responsibility for safety operation when assigned to shift work. You will participate in developing and conducting employee orientation training, task-specific training, ongoing supervisor training, and assist in developing/training project manager safety. A key part of the role includes conducting a minimum of four site walks for work area surveillance, inspections, air-sampling tests for confined space entry, property damage, and personal injury investigations. You will document all accidents, safety violations, and unsafe conditions/activities, and issue confined area entry and “hot work” permits as required. You will accompany safety, health, and insurance inspections on walk-through tours as required. Additionally, you will review, capture, and assist in preparing written safety plans, Activity Hazard Analyses, High-Risk Activity schedules, and Pre-Plans. You will also review safety-related journals and catalogues to stay updated on changes and improvements in protective safety equipment, materials, and gear, and assist in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations. You will also assist in preparing and reviewing, and sign off on acceptance of daily Pre-Task Plans for project work crews, attend weekly safety committee meetings as assigned by the manager, and participate in and observe daily morning crew huddles and flex stretch routines. In terms of Tool & PPE Coordination, you will review tools & PPE orders for shipment to job sites, ensure restock is made available, and defective tools are removed and reported. You will also assess equipment storage areas to ensure inventory is protected and ensure all items are stored according to fieldwork procedures and company standards.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required in Occupational Health and Safety, or related.
  • 2+ years of construction/industrial occupational health and safety experience.
  • 2+ years of Microsoft Office experience.
  • Proficient understanding of OSHA standards and guidelines.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of worker’s compensation documentation.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Hold a valid OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
  • Certified in First Aid & CPR required.
  • NFPA 70E Awareness Training required.
  • Demonstrated experience with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safety protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree preferred in Occupational Health and Safety, or related.
  • OSHA 510 Certification strongly valued.
  • Knowledge of Arc Flash hazards and safe work practices.
  • Familiarity with Bloodborne Pathogens standards and proper safety procedures.
