About The Position

Apple Services Engineering (ASE) designs and maintains the systems, platforms, and infrastructure that support Apple’s global services. The Apple Data Platform Site Reliability Engineering team manages infrastructure and applications on bare-metal and cloud computing platforms to deliver data processing, governance, and storage for Apple products and organizations. The platform supports large-scale data analytics across geographically distributed data centers, including services used by Apple Music, TV, Maps, and News. Data Platform Services SREs work directly with partner engineering teams and software developers to deliver reliable customer experiences. The team uses open-source, vendor-licensed, and proprietary tools, and contributes to improving them. It applies a consistent incident management process, develops user-journey-based SLOs from observability metrics, and builds high-availability architecture and deployment automation. The role involves operating and improving production applications and infrastructure, troubleshooting distributed systems, and automating manual operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of experience in SRE, software development, or production operations in a large-scale environment.
  • Proficiency authoring and releasing code in Go, Python, or Java using common configuration management and software delivery platforms.
  • Experience operating production applications, including performance testing, high availability, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and distributed systems on internal and public cloud infrastructure, principally Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of Linux, containers, virtualization, standard networking protocols, and their components.
  • Strong ownership and integrity, demonstrated through clear communication and collaboration.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills using the scientific method.
  • Proficiency in architecture, deployment, performance tuning, and troubleshooting of open-source data analytics or governance technologies such as Flink, Hive, Hadoop/HDFS, Trino, and/or Druid.
  • Proficiency managing applications and infrastructure on AWS, GCP, and Ali Cloud.
  • Drive to automate manual operations and reduce toil.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a consistent incident management process across data platform services.
  • Support user-journey-based SLOs using observability metrics, high-availability architecture, and deployment automation.
  • Author and release code using Go, Python, or Java and common configuration management and software delivery platforms.
  • Perform performance testing, capacity planning, and disaster recovery and high-availability work.
  • Deploy, tune, and troubleshoot open-source data analytics or governance technologies.
  • Automate manual operations and evolve them into automatic processes.
  • Troubleshoot production problems using empirical data and the scientific method.
