Site Reliability Engineering
About The Position
Geotab is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to provide escalated engineering support and timely responses to service disruptions affecting core software applications, such as MyGeotab. The role is responsible for maintaining production servers and helping restore and maintain normal service operations. The engineer will work closely with development teams and colleagues across the organization, applying troubleshooting, automation, system testing, and infrastructure monitoring skills in a fast-paced environment. The position participates in a rotating 24x7 on-call schedule.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in Server Operations, DevOps, SRE, or a similar role.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree specializing in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a systematic problem-solving approach.
- Experience with PowerShell, Python, SQL, and Linux-based systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage across organizational levels and communicate technical solutions effectively.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to changing priorities under pressure.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and technical competence in Google Suite.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, flat organization.
- Ability to work well under pressure and contribute as a strong team player.
Responsibilities
- Communicate technical solutions to customers during service disruptions.
- Troubleshoot production issues and coordinate with development teams to implement fixes.
- Collaborate with team members to improve engineering tools and dashboards for monitoring computing architecture.
- Implement automation tools and frameworks to streamline routine tasks.
- Conduct system tests for security, performance, and reliability.
- Assist with long-term strategic planning to ensure server capacity meets current and future requirements.
- Recommend design enhancements to improve reliability, security, and processes.
- Maintain supporting documentation for areas of expertise.
- Proactively monitor servers using a combination of tools to ensure high availability and superior SLAs.
- Plan and execute routine maintenance tasks.
- Conduct post-incident reviews and identify improvements for long-term reliability.
- Participate in a 24x7 rotating on-call schedule.
