About The Position

Retool is seeking Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) to join their Core Infrastructure team. This team is responsible for the systems that enable Retool to run reliably in customer infrastructure, including Retool Cloud, managed single tenant environments, BYOC environments, Kubernetes and Helm deployments, and Docker Compose. The role involves reducing customer toil, automating upgrades and infrastructure changes, building reliability tooling, and making Retool easier to deploy and operate at enterprise scale. The ideal candidate is comfortable debugging complex systems like Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS, Postgres, and networking, and then building automation to prevent future issues. This is an opportunity to work on infrastructure that directly impacts customer success and to contribute to the future of enterprise software development.

Requirements

  • Deep experience operating production infrastructure in AWS.
  • Experience improving reliability for customer-facing SaaS systems.
  • Strong Kubernetes fundamentals.
  • Real Terraform or infrastructure-as-code experience.
  • Good operational judgment around databases, especially Postgres.
  • Experience building or operating observability systems.
  • Programming ability in a language such as Go, Python, TypeScript, Java, or Ruby.
  • A bias toward automation.

Responsibilities

  • Own reliability across Retool Cloud, managed single tenant, BYOC, and self-hosted deployment paths, including provisioning, upgrades, migrations, configuration changes, and production escalations.
  • Build automation to transform manual infrastructure work into repeatable systems, such as Terraform runs, customer environment updates, upgrade workflows, secret rotations, and migration steps.
  • Improve observability for Retool Cloud, self-hosted customers, and internal operators, focusing on turning health signals into clear status, likely causes, and recommended actions.
  • Design safer deployment, upgrade, and rollback paths to help Cloud and managed customers stay current.
  • Support customer migration from legacy or less-supported deployment models to supported paths like Retool's official deployment paths (Blueprints, Kubernetes, and Helm).
  • Partner with product engineers on infrastructure requirements for new Retool products, especially those with new dependencies.
  • Lead through ambiguity, make careful risk calls, and communicate clearly in fast-paced environments.
  • Write documentation, runbooks, design notes, and migration guides to make complex systems understandable.
