•$115,500 - $184,800•Hybrid

About The Position

As a Site Reliability Engineer on Axon's Kubernetes team within Compute Platform Engineering, you will help operate and evolve the platform supporting Axon's products. The platform includes a large global fleet of Azure AKS and Amazon EKS clusters across commercial and government clouds. You will own platform features end to end, from design through rollout, and help ensure the platform is reliable, secure, well documented, and easy for engineering teams to use. The role is based in Axon's Boston, Atlanta, or Seattle office and follows a hybrid schedule: onsite Tuesday through Friday, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, except where an approved workplace accommodation applies. The position participates in the team's on-call rotation.

  • Experience building and operating production Kubernetes platforms such as AKS, EKS, or similar.
  • Experience building platforms on Azure or AWS.
  • Experience with a programming language such as Python, Go, C#, Java, or similar.
  • Experience with CI/CD and Git-based workflows for automating infrastructure provisioning, builds, tests, and releases.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code such as Terraform, Pulumi, or similar, including flexible, testable modules.
  • Experience using observability tools, including metrics, logs, traces, or APM, to debug issues.
  • Experience designing tooling that simplifies operation of SaaS/PaaS systems.
  • Hands-on experience applying AI and agentic tooling to engineering or operations work.
  • Empathy for the needs of software engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GitOps using ArgoCD and Helm.
  • Experience with cluster autoscaling and cost optimization, such as Karpenter, Vertical Pod Autoscaler, or similar.

  • Experience in government or regulated cloud environments such as Azure Government, FedRAMP/GovRAMP, or CJIS.
  • Exposure to 24/7 high-volume systems with formal SLA requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Own platform features and components end to end, including design documents and rollout plans.
  • Review teammates' changes and share operational knowledge across the team and with partner teams.
  • Build and operate robust, easy-to-use Kubernetes platforms and tooling so engineering teams can provision and run services rapidly, consistently, and securely.
  • Automate cluster provisioning, bootstrapping, upgrades, and day-2 operations with infrastructure as code and GitOps.
  • Improve reliability, operability, and cost efficiency across the fleet, including node autoscaling and right-sizing.
  • Maintain platform security and compliance through policy enforcement, vulnerability remediation, and government-cloud requirements such as FIPS.
  • Debug problems in cloud-native distributed systems and participate in the team's on-call rotation.
  • Write performant, maintainable, clear, and concise code.
  • Write documentation and guides that enable engineers to self-serve.
  • Use agentic AI tooling to automate platform operations and accelerate engineering work.
