Simulation Software Engineer (Civil Aviation)

ASI•Boston, MA
•$135,000 - $265,000

About The Position

As a Simulation Software Engineer on ASI’s Civil Aviation team, you will create software simulators to model the behavior of the entire National Airspace System, including aircraft trajectories, weather, air traffic control, and pilot behavior. You will apply knowledge of discrete-time simulation, physics, statistics, and algorithms to design and implement simulation infrastructure and models. The Civil Aviation team is modernizing America’s air traffic control system, building next-generation trajectory prediction and decision-support systems, and preparing the airspace for technologies such as commercial space operations and advanced air mobility. This mission-critical work supports the safety and efficiency of the national airspace. Employment offers are contingent on the ability to obtain required authorizations for the contemplated job duties; some contracts mandate U.S. immigration status and location restrictions.

Requirements

  • Experience building infrastructure for discrete-time simulations.
  • Experience implementing physics-based models in discrete-time simulations.
  • Experience designing algorithms for mission-critical applications.
  • Experience with Monte Carlo analysis to validate and tune algorithm performance.
  • Domain experience in aviation or related fields where physical systems are modeled and controlled.
  • Experience with modern programming languages such as Rust and Python.
  • Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across teams in a mission-critical environment.
  • Proficiency in leveraging modern LLM tools to accelerate development workflows and enhance code quality.
  • Ability to timely obtain all required authorizations for contemplated job duties; some contracts mandate U.S. immigration status and location restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Create software simulators that model the National Airspace System, including aircraft trajectories, weather, air traffic control, and pilot behavior.
  • Design and implement simulation infrastructure and models using discrete-time simulation, physics, statistics, and algorithms.
