GNC Software Engineer (Civil Aviation)

ASI•Boston, MA
•$200,000 - $265,000

About The Position

As a Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Software Engineer on ASI’s Civil Aviation team, you will design algorithms to track and plan trajectories for thousands of aircraft operating in the National Airspace System. You will apply knowledge of state estimation, physics, aircraft design, optimization, and algorithms to design, analyze, and implement software for monitoring and controlling complex airspace in real time. ASI’s Civil Aviation team is modernizing America’s air traffic control system and building next-generation trajectory prediction and decision-support systems. The work supports safe and efficient operations in a dynamic, safety-critical environment and prepares the airspace for emerging technologies such as commercial space operations and advanced air mobility.

Requirements

  • Experience designing algorithms for mission-critical applications.
  • Expertise in core GNC domains, including state estimation and algorithm design.
  • Experience with Monte Carlo analysis to validate and tune algorithm performance.
  • Domain experience in aviation or related fields where physical systems are modeled and controlled.
  • Experience with modern programming languages such as Rust and Python.
  • Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across teams in a mission-critical environment.
  • Proficiency in leveraging modern LLM tools to accelerate development workflows and enhance code quality.
  • Ability to timely obtain all authorizations required for contemplated job duties; some contracts mandate U.S. immigration status and location restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Design algorithms to track and plan trajectories for aircraft operating in the National Airspace System.
  • Design, analyze, and implement real-time software for monitoring and controlling airspace.
  • Apply state estimation, physics, aircraft design, optimization, and algorithm expertise to aviation systems.
