About The Position

The Lead Shop Technician is responsible for overseeing and directing the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of natural gas compression equipment, with a focus on optimizing team performance and operational efficiency. This role combines advanced technical expertise with leadership and management responsibilities, including supervising a team of technicians, managing complex projects, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards. The Lead Shop Technician works closely with the Shop Manager to drive continuous improvement and maintain high standards within the shop.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or a related field required.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in maintenance and repair of natural gas compression equipment or similar mechanical systems.
Expert-level mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, with a strong ability to diagnose and resolve complex inefficiencies.
Proficiency in using advanced diagnostic tools and equipment.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Leadership and team management skills.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Requires operation of heavy equipment.
Requires employee to stand for up to 75% of the time.
Requires employee to climb ladders or stairs to inspecting, repairing, and painting equipment.
Must be able to frequently lift at least 10 pounds, infrequent lifting of > 50 lbs.
High noise environment (>85dbA) will occur with ear protection.
Potential, controlled, exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Requires work in outdoor conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold.
Requires moving and maintaining self in different positions—stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
Must wear all required PPE, including fire-retardant clothing, hard hats, face shields, hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
Requires an employee to frequently type and use computer and other office equipment such as a copier, printer, calendar, telephone, etc.

Nice To Haves

Certification in leadership or management is preferred.
Experience in a senior or supervisory role preferred with demonstrated leadership and team management skills.

Responsibilities

Directs, coordinates and leads job activities in a manner consistent with Kodiak’s procedures/protocols, goals and objectives.
Acts as a leader in the shop providing guidance and support to other shop technicians.
Coordinate and manage the daily and weekly schedules for shop technicians.
Monitors regular inspections of equipment to identify potential problems and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, parts used, and time spent on each task.
Enforce and uphold safety procedures and standards to ensure a safe working environment.
Participate in safety training and meetings.
Oversee and perform advanced-level routine maintenance and repairs on natural gas compression equipment, including compressors, engines, and related systems.
Work closely with other shop technicians and Shop Manager to address equipment issues and improve operational efficiency.
Ensure all repairs and maintenance tasks are performed to the highest quality standards and in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
Ability to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.
Provide detailed reports on equipment status, project progress, and team performance to the Shop Manager.
May backfill Shop Manager, as necessary.
