About The Position

Supports the Superintendent in managing daily maintenance, supervising staff, and ensuring high-quality playing conditions. Key responsibilities include turf management (mowing, fertilization, chemical applications), irrigation system operation, and overseeing maintenance crews. Act as the on-site grounds leader in the Superintendent's absence.

Requirements

• Associates degree; Two years or more of job-related experience; Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.
• Must possess a valid Maryland Pesticide Applicator certificate or the ability to obtain one within 6 months from date of employment.
• Must pass a physical examination prior to employment.
• Must successfully pass background investigation with favorable results.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test.

• Strong understanding of turf grass culture, course conditioning, construction and reconstruction.
• Proper use of fertilizers and pesticides.
• Irrigation equipment operation and maintenance.
• Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary’s County Government policies and procedures.

• Ability to communicate effectively with other staff and members of the public.

• Knowledge of safety regulations and established procedures for operating equipment as well as for ensuring public safety.

• Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily maintenance of the golf course.
• Supervise staff in various maintenance job responsibilities.
• Ensure high-quality playing conditions.
• Perform turf management including mowing, fertilization, and chemical applications.
• Operate and maintain irrigation systems.
• Oversee maintenance crews.
• Act as the on-site grounds leader in the Superintendent's absence.
• Operate all equipment and instruct others on safety operations and proper use.
• Purchase necessary parts, tools, and supplies.
• Plan, schedule, and monitor all daily operations, including staffing schedules and leave requests.
• Maintain records of minor and major maintenance repairs and safety inspections.
• Assist with the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of the annual operating and capital budget for the golf course.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

• Full salary range for this position is $59,114 - $101,691 annually.
• The anticipated hiring range is $59,114 - $62,067 annually, based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
