About The Position

Transit Valley Country Club is a premier, family-oriented private club located in East Amherst, New York, just outside of Buffalo. Our 18-hole golf course is supported by a team committed to providing exceptional playing conditions while fostering a positive, team-oriented work environment with an emphasis on professional development and work-life balance. Transit Valley continues to invest in the long-term future of its golf course and facilities. A new irrigation system was installed in 2023, and the Club is actively implementing improvements from its Golf Course Master Plan, with many projects being completed in-house by our golf course maintenance team. These initiatives provide an excellent opportunity for an aspiring turf professional to gain hands-on experience with course renovations, agronomic practices, irrigation management, project execution, and day-to-day golf course operations. We are seeking a motivated and dependable Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our team and work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in maintaining and continually improving the golf course. This position is ideal for someone looking to expand their knowledge, take on increased responsibility, contribute to meaningful course improvement projects, and continue building a career in golf course management. Requirements

2 or 4 year degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience preferred.
2–3 years of golf course maintenance or turfgrass experience preferred, with previous leadership or supervisory experience a plus.
Strong working knowledge of turfgrass management practices, irrigation systems, course setup, and golf course maintenance equipment.
New York State pesticide applicator license preferred, or the ability to obtain the appropriate license within six months of hire.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively train, motivate, and work alongside team members.
Self-motivated with strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to identify and solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of the golf course leadership team.
Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required by golf course operations, with an organizational emphasis on maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including outdoor work and manual tasks in varying weather conditions.
A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine desire to learn, grow, and advance within the golf course maintenance profession.

Responsibilities

Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in planning, coordinating, and supervising the daily maintenance and conditioning of the golf course, including greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and practice facilities.
Participate in and oversee daily golf course maintenance activities, including mowing, watering, aerification, topdressing, fertilization, course setup, and other agronomic practices.
Assist with the planning, preparation, and application of fertilizers and plant protectants while ensuring proper application procedures, recordkeeping, and compliance with all applicable regulations.
Assist in the operation and management of the Club’s irrigation system, including daily water management, system monitoring, troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments to promote healthy turf and efficient water usage.
Help coordinate the proper use, care, and maintenance of golf course equipment while promoting safe operating practices among the team.
Provide daily leadership, training, direction, and supervision to golf course maintenance team members while helping foster a positive, productive, and team-oriented work environment.
Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to develop and implement agronomic programs designed to continually improve turf quality, playing conditions, course presentation, and overall member experience.
Monitor turf conditions, including disease, pest, moisture, and environmental stress, and assist in identifying and implementing appropriate corrective measures.
Participate in golf course improvement projects and the continued implementation of the Club’s Golf Course Master Plan, including opportunities to gain hands-on experience with in-house renovation and construction projects.
Assist with departmental planning, budgeting, purchasing, inventory management, and expense monitoring to support efficient golf course operations.
Assist with daily course setup and ensure the golf course is prepared to consistently meet the Club’s standards for playability, presentation, and member experience.
Maintain compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations related to pesticide applications, workplace safety, environmental practices, and golf course maintenance operations.
Serve as a key member of the golf course leadership team and assume additional responsibilities in the Golf Course Superintendent’s absence.
