About The Position
Lake Geneva Country Club is seeking an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join its Greens/Grounds Department. This is a full-time, exempt, salaried, and benefit-eligible position. The club is embarking on a significant renovation project, with comprehensive long-range planning underway for a property-wide renovation targeted for 2028, led by golf course architect Andrew Green. The Grounds Department will play a crucial role in golf course restoration, infrastructure improvements, and agronomic enhancements. This role offers a rare opportunity for an aspiring Golf Course Superintendent to gain firsthand experience in the planning, preparation, and execution of a major golf course renovation, contributing to the club's future for decades. Lake Geneva Country Club, founded in 1895, is a historic private club committed to improving its golf course, facilities, and member experience. The Grounds Department is entering a period of significant investment and long-range improvement, aiming to build a department known for both course quality and professional development. Requirements
- Certificate, Associate, or Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of progressive golf course maintenance experience preferred.
- Previous supervisory or crew leadership experience.
- Experience with fertilizer and plant protectant applications.
- Working knowledge of irrigation and water management.
- Wisconsin Commercial Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and meet the physical demands of golf course maintenance.
- Availability for weekends, holidays, and extended hours when course conditions or events require them.
- Demonstrated ability, experience, character, and potential alongside formal education.
Responsibilities
- Help plan, coordinate, and lead daily golf course maintenance operations.
- Lead and develop full-time staff, AITs, interns, and seasonal team members.
- Serve as an on-site leader and help manage the golf course in the Director of Grounds' absence.
- Monitor turf health, playing conditions, and course presentation and communicate observations and recommendations.
- Participate in the planning and execution of fertilizer, plant protectant, growth regulator, and other agronomic programs.
- Take an active role in irrigation operation, moisture management, troubleshooting, and future irrigation improvements.
- Plan and execute cultural practices including aerification, topdressing, grooming, and other programs.
- Help coordinate and execute drainage, construction, and other golf course improvement projects.
- Participate in planning and preparation for the club's long-range golf course renovation.
- Train staff in equipment operation, safety, course standards, and proper care of club assets.
- Work closely with the Equipment Technician to maintain a high standard of equipment care and performance.
- Help maintain department records, labor information, application records, and other operational documentation.
- Participate in staff hiring, onboarding, coaching, and professional development.
- Communicate professionally with club leadership, members, contractors, consultants, and industry partners when appropriate.
- Help maintain a Grounds Department culture built around accountability, professionalism, pride, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
