About The Position

Laurel Oak Country Club is seeking an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join their team. This role reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the golf course, including the maintenance of tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths. The Assistant Superintendent will also supervise the maintenance and repair of equipment and may act in the Superintendent's capacity during their absence. The club is a family-oriented private country club in Sarasota, Florida, known for its two exceptional golf courses, clubhouse, amenities, and vibrant social atmosphere.

Requirements

Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens.
Knowledge of seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf.
Knowledge of planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees.
Knowledge of characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners.
Knowledge of herbicides and pest control methods and materials.
Knowledge of drainage control methods.
Knowledge of irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automatic controls.
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
Ability to maintain effective employee and public relations.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
Good organizational and verbal skills.
Ability to use logical and rational thinking to resolve issues.
Ability to perform basic mathematical skills.
Ability to monitor and develop subordinates.
Ability to visually monitor the operation areas.
Ability to write and read member communication.
Ability to perform moderate physical work.
Ability to lift up to 80 lbs., up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 20 lbs. constantly.
Ability to perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, pushing, lifting and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting.

Experience with Toro irrigation systems, Osmac controllers, and Lynx operating system.

Responsibilities

Assist the Superintendent in day-to-day operations of the facility.
Supervise, train, and work with seasonal staff to build a solid team environment.
Prepare and submit weekly employee schedules to ensure efficient use of employees.
Monitor the course for disease pressure, moisture issues (both dry and wet), turf decline, and other pests.
Make pesticide and fertilizer applications, calibrate equipment, properly document applications, keep an inventory, and take notes.
Manage irrigation scheduling, repair, and maintenance of a Toro irrigation system with Osmac controllers and Lynx operating system.
Properly hand-water turf.
Attend and participate in weekly department and other periodic employee and member meetings.
Conduct weekly facility walk-throughs to ensure the facility is safe and presentable.
Operate within all guidelines, policies, standards, and constraints as established by Hampton Golf.
