About The Position

The Shop Technician – Power Generation is responsible for providing reliable service solutions and preventative maintenance to power generation systems. Serves as liaison between sales and production/manufacturing, ensuring generators are modified, tested, and shipped according to customer requirements. Confirms equipment/systems meet or exceed all applicable standards and remain in ready-to-run condition.

Requirements

  • Education:  Heavy Equipment Journeyman Red Seal and/or currently registered in a related Provincial Apprenticeship program. Power Generation Experience
  • Work Experience:  2-3 years experience with engine/generator makes and fuel sources (diesel, gas, natural gas)
  • Knowledge:  Proficient written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to work with customers, exceptional customer service; demonstrated mechanical aptitude, analysis and problem solving skills.
  • Hold a valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
  • Ability to be NSC certified.

Responsibilities

  • Where required tests, measures, and verifies electrical component operations, including energized components and electrical fields; conducts building transfer tests to confirm correct operation of transfer switches, breakers, and generator units.
  • Troubleshoots power generation equipment to detect faults and malfunctions and determine extent of required repairs; adjusts equipment and repairs or replaces defective parts; tests repaired equipment to ensure proper performance.
  • Communicate with generator owners for authorization of servicing and repairs as required.
  • Service and repair generators in the shop and on-site for the customer.
  • Recondition and remanufacture components as required for controllers and engines repairs.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with customers.
  • Communicate work performed and complete service paperwork.
  • Perform monthly, semi-annual, annual, load testing as per CSA-282-15
  • Work with high & low voltage and red single line drawings.
  • Fill out warranty information
  • Perform in shop worked related to on/off Highway equipment repairs as required 
  • Comply with the Health & Safety program and practices.
  • Performance of daily duties in a manner conducive to a safe workplace.
  • Conduct housekeeping duties
