About The Position

The Shop Assistant supports daily service operations at Sonsray Machinery in San Leandro, California. This hands-on role prepares, moves, and cleans heavy equipment; assists with equipment check-in and check-out; and helps keep the shop and yard clean and organized. The position works closely with the service team to safely load and unload equipment, assist with basic preventive maintenance, and support deliveries as needed while providing professional customer service. The role operates in and around heavy diesel equipment and shop environments, with occasional travel to customer or prospective client locations for deliveries or assistance.

Requirements

1–2 years of experience with rental equipment, heavy machine operation, and shop and yard cleanup.
Experience with minor heavy equipment repairs.
Ability to work in and around heavy diesel equipment and shop environments.
Strong customer service skills and a professional, approachable demeanor.
Ability to safely load, unload, and transport equipment and materials.
Comfort working in varying outdoor and shop conditions.
Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for occasional travel.

Nice To Haves

Basic mechanical knowledge; ability to perform preventive maintenance services is highly desired.

Responsibilities

Check in and check out equipment, ensuring proper documentation and handling.
Deliver and station equipment as needed for operations.
Load and unload equipment and materials safely and efficiently.
Pressure wash, clean, and polish equipment to maintain presentation standards.
Assist personnel with daily tasks and various yard duties.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop and yard.
Perform basic mechanical duties, such as preventive maintenance services, when needed.
Provide exceptional customer service and address customer needs promptly.
Build and maintain strong, long-term business relationships.
Work in and around heavy diesel equipment and shop environments.
Occasionally travel to customer or prospective client locations for deliveries or assistance.
Perform other duties as assigned by management to support dealership operations.
