The Shop Apprentice will install, repair, and test various electrical and/or mechanical apparatus such as re-closers, transformers, regulators, control equipment, relays, and line and protective relaying. This role involves working under supervision near energized equipment, gaining knowledge of substation and distribution equipment, and using trade-specific tools and instruments. The apprentice will learn to prepare necessary records, become familiar with NASC equipment and switching procedures, and operate substation equipment. The position requires the ability to work from elevated structures, be comfortable working within allowable working clearances of energized equipment, and perform duties without immediate supervision, including switching and operating duties unassisted. Responsibilities also include reading and interpreting prints, sketches, and electrical diagrams, troubleshooting controls and alarms, performing NASC facility repairs, handling hazardous waste, and cleaning up oil spills with record keeping. The apprentice will also learn company operating standards, policies, safety instructions, and regulations, and must be available for on-call duties for oil spill response. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the practical training of other employees and performing other assigned duties.
