About The Position

J.H. Routh Packing is seeking an experienced and motivated Shipping Supervisor to lead daily shipping operations by coordinating workflows, enforcing department procedures, and ensuring on-time customer deliveries. This role requires a hands-on leader who can provide clear direction, make quick and sound decisions, and keep the shipping department running efficiently to meet loading schedules and customer expectations. With more than 100 years in business, Routh Packing Co. | Daisyfield is the largest-scale hog producer in the state of Ohio. Acquired in 2020 by H.K. Holdings, the company is entering an exciting new phase of growth, with expanded business categories and strong opportunities for career development. The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the shipping dock, leading the team safely and effectively, and ensuring shipments are completed accurately and on schedule.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of related supervisory or shipping experience required.
  • Forklift, electric pallet jack, and spotter tractor certifications required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to make quick decisions and solve problems effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Professional, respectful, and team-oriented approach with the ability to build positive working relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical aptitude and general knowledge of refrigeration units and trailer functions preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the shipping team to ensure adherence to loading standards, schedules, and efficiency goals.
  • Plan daily and evening workloads, prioritize shipments, and make quick operational decisions as needed.
  • Communicate with scheduling and corporate teams regarding changes in shipping needs or operational requirements.
  • Operate a spotter tractor to move trailers in and out of dock positions.
  • Review shipments prior to billing and complete all billing and invoicing functions accurately.
  • Prepare required reports, including explanations for inventory adjustments or discrepancies.
  • Monitor safety compliance, conduct weekly safety inspections, and ensure forklift checklists are completed.
  • Perform and oversee routine yard checks for trailer operation and fuel consumption.
  • In the absence of key personnel, complete or delegate essential duties to trained and qualified team members.
