About The Position

The Shipping Supervisor leads frontline shipping and dock operations during the second shift in a fast-paced, 24-hour manufacturing environment. The role supervises forklift operators, loaders, and staging personnel, ensuring safe operations, efficient product flow, accurate shipments, and employee engagement. This is a hands-on, visible leadership role responsible for the operation’s busiest shipping hours, including dock operations, carrier dispatches, and setting expectations for the shift. The successful candidate leads by example, takes ownership of results, and maintains high standards for safety, quality, and performance while coaching and developing employees. The position is based in Lathrop, California, reports to the Shipping Manager, and is scheduled Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with overtime and weekends as required. The work takes place in an active, fast-paced shipping and manufacturing environment with forklift traffic, moving equipment, varying temperatures, and usually loud noise. The role involves extended periods of standing and walking, climbing on and off equipment and loading platforms, repetitive physical movements, and lifting and moving up to 50 pounds. Requirements

Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing, distribution, warehouse, or shipping environment.
Minimum of 2 years of direct leadership, supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience.
Strong understanding of shipping operations, forklift safety, dock management, and warehouse processes.
High school diploma or GED.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and computerized inventory or warehouse management systems.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to interpret business and performance reports, operating and maintenance instructions, training and procedure manuals, write business reports and correspondence, and speak effectively.
Ability to apply common-sense reasoning to written, oral, or graphic instructions and solve problems in situations with limited information or standardization.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic and calculate rates, ratios, percentages, costs, proportions, and volumes.
Computer literacy, including MS Office and Word, and data-entry skills.
Knowledge of products and production processes and of ISO and QS quality standards.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, frequently up to 8–10 hours per shift; climb on and off equipment and loading platforms; bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements; and lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled industrial environment with active forklift traffic, moving equipment, varying temperatures, and usually loud noise.

Responsibilities

Conduct shift-start safety meetings, reinforce safe work practices, enforce PPE and equipment inspection requirements, address unsafe conditions and near misses, and promote shared responsibility for safety.
Lead shift personnel by setting expectations for performance, attendance, safety, and conduct; provide coaching, training, and feedback; recognize strong performance; and address performance issues consistently.
Direct daily loading, staging, and shipping activities during evening dispatch hours.
Coordinate freight movement to support on-time shipments and efficient dock flow.
Monitor trailer utilization, load quality, shipping accuracy, and dock performance, and work to minimize delays.
Monitor attendance and staffing needs, address attendance issues according to company policy, and support staffing adjustments.
Verify outgoing shipments meet quality and customer requirements; audit staged products and completed loads; and coordinate with production teams to resolve issues before shipment.
Ensure daily equipment inspections are completed and that forklifts, scanners, dock equipment, and related assets remain safe and operational; report maintenance needs and remove unsafe equipment from service when necessary.
Conduct shift handovers and complete accurate reports covering safety, production, quality, staffing, and operational concerns.
Communicate operational issues clearly to management and supporting departments.
