About The Position

A successful shipping & receiving lead will direct overall shipping and receiving operations to ensure the accurate, timely, and efficient flow of product to our internal and external customers while maintaining the company's quality standards and customer delivery requirements. This role requires exemplary leadership, positive attitude, and courteous customer service when interacting with drivers, vendors, and internal stakeholders. The lead will operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely, receive and verify incoming materials, and collaborate with various teams to coordinate shipment status. Responsibilities also include inspecting and reporting damage, preparing shipping documents, contacting carriers, developing inventory control policies, reconciling discrepancies, conducting physical inventories, and maintaining an organized warehouse. The lead will also serve as the project lead for year-end inventory and develop cost-saving methods.

Requirements

  • Frequent: Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting (up to 50 lbs), pushing, pulling, and moving items. Requires the ability to move around the warehouse and maneuver products when necessary
  • Frequent: Walking and Standing (up to but not limited to 8 hours). Requires moving around the warehouse to perform duties and assist the supervisor and/or coworker(s)
  • Ability to visually verify part accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to recognize and identify, and use necessary reports and other informational resources
  • Ability to climb a rolling ladder, up to 10 feet
  • Ability to operate a forklift, upon completion of in-house certification.
  • Wear required safety equipment when appropriate/necessary/required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5-years’ experience in manufacturing.
  • At least 2 years of experience with shipping / receiving in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in operating forklifts or other material handling equipment.
  • Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong aptitude in ERP systems and MS Office applications.
  • Sound decision-making and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced education is preferred.
  • Valid forklift certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely to load, unload, move, and stage materials throughout the warehouse and facility.
  • Receive incoming materials, components, and equipment deliveries.
  • Verify the quality and count of all items unloaded from trucks and trailers.
  • Collaborate with the production team, customer service, and management to coordinate and communicate shipment status, delays, or any other relevant information.
  • Inspect and report any damage, discrepancies, or quality issues with received items and complete information on damage claims for in-transit damage as necessary.
  • Examine shipment contents and compare them with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy.
  • Prepare documents, such as packing slips, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.
  • Contact carriers to make arrangements for shipping and delivery of items.
  • Develop and implement inventory control policies, procedures, and best practices to improve accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Reconcile inventory discrepancies and investigate root causes to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct regular physical inventories and cycle counts to reconcile discrepancies between physical stock and system records.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient warehouse and shipping area, ensuring materials are stored properly and are easy to locate.
  • Serve as the project lead with year-end inventory, which includes scheduling, planning, and implementing the physical inventory process from start to finish.
  • Collaborate with common carrier companies to receive the lowest freight charges and best service.
  • Check all inbound freight over for any damage and match to the packing slip.
  • Deliver inbound freight to the proper department.
  • Update inventory systems promptly and accurately, monitor stock levels and report any discrepancies or issues with materials to the appropriate personnel.
  • Develop and implement cost-saving methods that would benefit the company.
  • Perform other duties as needed and assigned.
