1st Shift Shipping Clerk

About The Position

The Shipping Clerk works closely with customer service, client representatives, and trucking-firm drivers to achieve and maintain high service levels. The role handles shipping orders, carrier arrangements, shipping documentation, data entry, and customer service, while helping ensure products are handled and shipped according to customer requirements and quality procedures. The clerk also supports order pullers and shipping operations, works with FedEx and UPS supply chain, and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma.
A college or technical-school certificate in logistics or six months of related experience.
Ability to read, understand, and follow directions, instructions, and safety rules.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
Key punch or data-entry experience.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Detail-oriented.

Nice To Haves

Forklift certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Create and interpret shipping orders based on customer routing instructions and current customer requirements.
Interpret shipping orders to facilitate shipping arrangements and instructions.
Contact carrier representatives to arrange shipments and provide loading instructions.
Enter ASNs within specified time frames and verify documentation accuracy.
Provide on-site carriers with customer service and ensure required documentation is completed accurately and promptly.
Use shipping orders to enter customer data and create bills of lading.
Organize and file facility-wide shipping and receiving documentation.
Understand the quality system and identify and properly handle parts with quality warnings.
Handle hot jobs carefully and urgently, expediting them through the department.
Maintain legible, accurate departmental logs and records, and communicate discrepancies to appropriate people.
Use an RF scanner to verify products are scanned correctly and assist order pullers in correcting scanning issues.
Work with customer service and other shipping department staff to meet customer needs.
Assist with customer service functions before and after hours.
Work with the FedEx and UPS supply chain.
Perform other duties as assigned.
