About The Position

The Western Sugar Cooperative is seeking a Shift Supervisor to lead production personnel in the safe, efficient, and high-quality processing of sugar beets into refined sugar. This position provides direction and oversight for employees across all processing areas, ensuring production goals are achieved while upholding the Cooperative's standards for safety, quality, and operational excellence. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong communication and problem-solving skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to foster a positive and accountable work environment. Mechanical aptitude, an understanding of industrial processes, and a strong appreciation for preventative maintenance are essential, with opportunities to further develop technical knowledge of the sugar manufacturing process.

  • Mechanical aptitude and an interest in industrial processing operations.
  • Willingness to learn and apply continuous improvement methodologies, including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Root Cause Analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of supervisory experience in an industrial processing or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of process manufacturing experience preferred; however, candidates with a strong technical or engineering background and demonstrated leadership potential may be considered.
  • Experience in sugar beet processing, sugar refining, or a similar continuous-process manufacturing environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own full shift accountability across staff management, production output, and quality targets
  • Hold employees accountable to quality systems, processes, and procedures
  • Develop, motivate, and manage direct reports
  • Monitor, measure, and report on production performance and operational issues
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with all staff, verbally and in writing
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules and regulations; address issues promptly using available shift resources
  • Apply problem-solving and root cause analysis to identify issues and drive fast, effective resolutions
  • Coordinate closely with other Shift Supervisors to ensure effective production handovers
  • Ensure employees are trained to perform their duties safely and efficiently
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain housekeeping standards for a clean and safe workplace
  • Manage Company resources effectively to optimize operating costs
