About The Position

Responds to accidents and incidents on the highway systems and assists in analyzing the situation and determining a plan of action for removing the incident. Assists motorists with disabled vehicles on the highway systems and removes vehicles or motorists from the roadway if necessary. Operates and maintains the incident response vehicle in accordance with preventive maintenance inspection (PMI) policies and procedures. Ensures that all courtesy, ethical, and safety regulations and requirements are met so that all employees and the public are provided a safe working environment. Performs administrative reporting and supervisory duties including Freeway Incident Management training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver's license required, Class C or above.
  • Freeway Incident Management / First Responder Certification required within six (6) months of date of hire.
  • Good interpersonal and public relations skills.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and properly apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare official documents including interoffice memos and letters.
  • Working knowledge of applicable policies including Sheriff's Department policies, Civil Service Rules, Standard Operating Procedures, and the Tarrant County Employee Handbook.
  • Working knowledge of department organization and functions.
  • Working knowledge of basic word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to control emotions and focus on professional duties in all circumstances.
  • Ability to communicate necessary information to others in a calm, clear, dispassionate, and purposeful speaking voice.
  • Ability to create accurate, clear, concise, comprehensive, relevant, and grammatically correct documents.
  • Ability to work with employees and citizens from diverse population groups.
  • Ability to focus personal and team efforts toward continuous performance improvement.
  • Ability to actively seek opportunities to increase and improve knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Technical training in transportation management, traffic or incident management, engineering, highway construction, or automobile repair.
  • Skills in first line supervision of field units.
  • Knowledge or experience in automotive repair, roadway maintenance and construction, highway emergency response patrol activities, or traffic control activities.
  • Experience or training in public speaking.
