About The Position

The Shift Lead at Madison Reed’s Hair Color Bar helps ensure an excellent guest experience from arrival through departure, manages the appointment schedule, communicates with guests, and supports service quality across the team. The role supports the Manager’s initiatives and operational best practices, encourages team input and community relationships, and promotes Madison Reed’s products, services, and values. As a keyholder, the Shift Lead serves as manager-on-duty when the Manager is absent and develops business and team-management skills for potential advancement to Hair Color Bar Manager. This is a full-time role reporting to the Manager. Weekend, holiday, and other peak-time availability is required based on business needs. Compensation includes base hourly pay, commissions, and tips; potential earnings for this location are $45–$47 per hour. Actual compensation depends on factors including Hair Color Bar performance, tenure, and time behind the chair. The position includes cosmetology services, salon and retail operations, team coaching, and support for recruiting and talent development. It involves extended periods of standing and walking, repetitive bending and twisting, reaching and hand movements, occasional lifting or moving items up to ten pounds, and regular guest conversations and consultations.

Requirements

Active cosmetology license in the state where applying.
At least 1 year of experience as a colorist behind the chair in a salon environment.
At least 1 year of leadership experience in a customer-facing environment.
Effective communication, problem-solving, and people skills in a fast-paced retail or salon environment.
Comfort operating point-of-sale systems.
Fluency in English.
Availability on weekends, holidays, and other peak times based on business needs.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate and develop leadership skills to provide a high-quality employee and guest experience aligned with Madison Reed’s values.
Lead by example in sales and service interactions and resolve guest service issues.
Support front-of-house and back-of-house operations, follow company standard operating procedures, and assist guests with retail orders.
Provide consultations and all menu services, including shampooing, conditioning, styling, and chemical services.
Step in as manager-on-duty, fostering a positive, collaborative team environment through coaching and feedback.
Contribute to monthly sales goals and key performance indicators, including retail sales, services, and memberships.
Ensure the Hair Color Bar meets company standards for merchandising, inventory, and company asset security.
Demonstrate mastery of Madison Reed systems, policies, processes, and procedures.
Coach and develop team members to support team culture, guest satisfaction, and Hair Color Bar performance.
Participate in ongoing training and stay current on Madison Reed products and services.
Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, performance management, coaching, talent development, and team-member training as needed by the Manager.
