About The Position

This is a waterfront shipboard construction and re-modernization position, working within shipyards and drydocks onboard U.S. Naval ships. The incumbent will be working in varying temperatures of high heat in the summer and cold in the winter. Contingencies include satisfaction of all eligibility requirements as dictated by any customer account or business area that you will be supporting. The eligibility requirements for continued employment in this position include, but may not be limited to, obtaining DBIDS, and access to all shipyards.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience
  • 1-3 years of related sheet-metal fabrication experience.
  • Skills: Blueprints, Metals, Sheet Metal Fabrication
  • US Citizenship Required

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational training preferred

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates fabricating machines including shears, brakes, bending rolls, and punch and drill presses to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal.
  • Shapes metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammer.
  • Sets up and operates soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts.
  • Smooths seams, joints, or burred surfaces using files and portable grinder or buffer.
  • Installs assemblies according to blueprints, engineering sketches, written instructions or manuals.
  • Inspects assemblies and installations for conformance with specifications, using measuring instruments including calipers, scales, and micrometer.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Participates in special projects, as required.
