About The Position

The Sheet-Metal Worker, Maintenance is responsible for setting up and operating fabricating machines to shape, cut, bend, and join sheet metal according to blueprints and specifications. This role involves using various tools and equipment, performing inspections, and ensuring work is done safely and efficiently. The position also includes providing guidance to less experienced mechanics and assisting in work planning.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3–5 years of related sheet-metal fabrication experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in setting up and operating common sheet metal fabrication equipment and tools.
  • Strong knowledge of sheet metal materials, fabrication techniques, and shop practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, engineering sketches, and technical instructions.
  • Proficiency with soldering and welding techniques applicable to sheet metal work.
  • Skilled in the safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery.
  • Ability to perform precise measurements and inspections using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Solid understanding of and adherence to safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to provide direction, coaching, and support to junior mechanics and apprentices.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be a US Citizen

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, bending rolls, and punch and drill presses to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal.
  • Shape metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammers and other hand tools.
  • Set up and operate soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts and assemblies.
  • Smooth seams, joints, and burred or rough surfaces using files, portable grinders, or buffers.
  • Install sheet metal assemblies and components in accordance with blueprints, engineering sketches, written instructions, and manuals.
  • Inspect assemblies and installations for conformance with specifications using measuring instruments such as calipers, scales, and micrometers.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures and industry best practices.
  • Provide guidance, training, and work leadership to less-experienced sheet-metal mechanics and helpers.
  • Assist in planning work sequences, selecting appropriate materials, tools, and methods to complete assignments efficiently and to quality standards.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.
