About The Position

Skillforce is hiring a dependable Sheet Metal Fabrication Assistant for a leading commercial roofing company. This is a full-time, direct-hire position based in Capitol Heights, Maryland. The role supports the fabrication of sheet metal components for commercial construction projects and is suited to someone with hands-on fabrication experience who is comfortable working with measurements, machinery, and technical drawings. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work efficiently independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

Previous experience in sheet metal fabrication, metalworking, or a related trade is preferred.
Comfort using fabrication machinery and hand tools.
Strong understanding of measurements, layouts, and basic fabrication techniques.
Ability to read and understand technical drawings or shop plans.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Good problem-solving and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a production-oriented environment.
Reliability, a safety-minded approach, and willingness to learn.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in sheet metal fabrication, metalworking, or a related trade.

Responsibilities

Measure, mark, cut, bend, notch, and punch sheet metal according to project requirements.
Operate fabrication equipment, including hydraulic shears, folding machines, notchers, punches, and Iron Worker machinery.
Read and interpret shop drawings, layouts, measurements, and specifications.
Inspect completed pieces for accuracy, quality, and proper fit.
Track fabrication progress and communicate workload or scheduling needs with the production team.
Maintain organized records and documentation related to fabrication work.
Troubleshoot fabrication issues and work with supervisors and coworkers to resolve problems.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Follow company and jobsite safety procedures.
