About The Position

Skillforce is seeking a dependable Sheet Metal Fabrication Assistant to support the fabrication of sheet metal components for commercial construction projects. The role is suited to someone with hands-on fabrication experience who is comfortable working with measurements, machinery, and technical drawings. The candidate should be detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team. This is a full-time, direct-hire position based in Capitol Heights, Maryland, with compensation of $20–$24 per hour.

Requirements

Previous experience in sheet metal fabrication, metalworking, or a related trade is preferred.
Comfort using fabrication machinery and hand tools.
Strong understanding of measurements, layouts, and basic fabrication techniques.
Ability to read and understand technical drawings or shop plans.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Good problem-solving and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a production-oriented environment.
Reliability, safety-mindedness, and willingness to learn.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in sheet metal fabrication, metalworking, or a related trade.

Responsibilities

Measure, mark, cut, bend, notch, and punch sheet metal according to project requirements.
Operate hydraulic shears, folding machines, notchers, punches, and Iron Worker machinery.
Read and interpret shop drawings, layouts, measurements, and specifications.
Inspect completed pieces for accuracy, quality, and proper fit.
Track fabrication progress and communicate workload or scheduling needs with the production team.
Maintain organized records and documentation related to fabrication work.
Troubleshoot fabrication issues and work with supervisors and coworkers to resolve problems.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Follow company and jobsite safety procedures.
