About The Position

The SGA Student Health Affairs Director reports to the Executive Director and chairs the Student Health Advisory Committee. This role involves developing relationships with leaders of health and wellness student organizations, and working closely with professional staff in Student Health Services, Counseling Services, and other health-related departments. The Director actively promotes a healthy lifestyle through the seven dimensions of wellness, addresses health and wellness concerns and policy issues, and directs students to appropriate resources for assistance. The position also involves working on Alcohol and Other Drug (AODA) projects and programming, attending health and wellness student organization events, and potentially serving on University health and wellness committees as a Vice President's appointee. The Director is responsible for recruiting students for the Student Health Advisory Committee, serving on the Non-allocable University Fee Allocation Committee, collaborating on campus-wide observation days, and attending SGA Senate and Executive Staff meetings. A minimum of 10 hours per week is expected in the SGA Office or related work, excluding Student Senate. Additionally, the Director must meet with the Executive Director at the end of each semester to document transitional materials, including accomplishments and tips, which must be typed, emailed, and stored in the SGA email account, as well as handed over to the successor. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a student at any of the Universities of Wisconsin
  • Serve a minimum of 10 hours per week in the SGA Office or related work meeting on campus, with the exception of Student Senate
  • Documentation must be typed, emailed, and stored in the Student Government Association email account, as well as handed over for the next person in the role
  • Transitional materials must also include an updated list of contacts at the last meeting of the executive's term

Responsibilities

  • Chair the Student Health Advisory Committee
  • Develop relationships with and meet regularly with leaders from all the health and wellness related student organizations
  • Develop a working relationship with the Director of Student Health Services, Director of Counseling Services, Reproductive Health Peer Educator, and other health and wellness related professional staff
  • Actively promote a healthy lifestyle through the seven dimensions of wellness
  • Proactively address health and wellness concerns and policy issues
  • Direct students to the proper outlets to obtain assistance with questions related to health, counseling, wellness, prevention, and safety
  • Work on all Alcohol and Other Drug (AODA) projects and policy
  • Work on projects and programming to address student health and wellness needs
  • Attend, as often as possible, health and wellness student organization’s events, meetings, and programs
  • When delegated, serve as the Vice President’s appointee on University health and wellness committees, task forces, and work groups
  • Actively recruit students to get involved in the Student Health Advisory Committee
  • Serve as an ex-officio on the Non-allocable University Fee Allocation Committee
  • Collaborate with fellow directors to plan events regarding campuswide observation days
  • Attend the Student Government Association Senate and the Executive Staff meetings
  • Serve a minimum of 10 hours per week in the SGA Office or related work meeting on campus, with the exception of Student Senate
  • Meet at a minimum of once near the end of each semester with the Executive Director to specifically discuss and document transitional material including semester accomplishments and helpful tips
  • Other duties as assigned
