About The Position

SF Reads is a high school book discussion club that meets monthly throughout the school year to discuss novels. The goal of this position is to foster a love of reading for pleasure, broaden students' appreciation of literature, and promote a culture of literacy within the school. The club aims to encourage critical thinking and deeper engagement with stories, helping to cultivate academic and artistic excellence and develop competent, ethical, and empathic citizens.

Requirements

• Knowledge and experience with current young adult literature and reading trends
• Must be familiar with leading and facilitating group discussion
• Must be able to coordinate collection of appropriate books and/or e-resources from the South Fayette Public Library when needed

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with students to determine best days/weeks for meetings
• Reserve appropriate space in the school to hold the book discussion
• Advertise book club meetings to encourage participation
• Coordinate collection of resources with the public library when necessary
• Be prepared to discuss monthly novels as well as creating questions for book discussion
• Arrange for refreshments to be enjoyed on the day of the discussion
• Conduct book discussion once a month on the scheduled date
