About The Position

The Sewer works in a furniture manufacturing environment in Conover, North Carolina, sewing fabric and/or leather pieces to meet quality standards and production goals. The role uses an electric industrial sewing machine and requires sewing to established specifications, inspecting materials and finished work, and following safety policies and procedures. The work takes place in a climate-controlled plant with concrete floors. The schedule is Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Overtime is required as needed, and weekend work may be required. The position reports to the Sewing Supervisor.

Requirements

Must be able to read and write English and comprehend sewing notes written in English.
Must be able to sew an accurate ½-inch seam and straight stitches without skipped stitches.
Must be able to use an electric industrial sewing machine safely and efficiently and thread a needle.
Must be able to use a ruler to measure correctly and sew to set specifications.
Must have good close-up and color vision.
Must be able to consistently push, pull, and lift up to 15 pounds.
Must be able to sit for a minimum of eight hours per day.
Must be able to work weekends and overtime.
Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety glasses and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes.
Must have strong written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Must be able to work with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities

Sew furniture pieces accurately using established standards and specifications.
Inspect materials and pieces for correct color, holes, flaws, and other issues.
Meet established production goals in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Follow safety policies and procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
